We have been in the sign making business for 20 years and this is a new product we manufacture in Leicester.

Their are two sizes – A5 size Lynn £75.00 + P&P £7.50 | A4 size Lee £95.00 + P&P £7.50

This is a 12 volt very bright L.E.D. House number built in sensor that automatically switches on and off….no need for a timer.

Mains powered… if you have a existing external light it can be disconnected and replaced with your new bright L.E.D. house number light, a small waterproof box will fit the 12v driver in the wall behind the light.

OR simply just plug in any inside 3 pin plug (see option A & B photos below).

Standard house numbers are made to be seen during the day however they are usually plain to the eye during the daylight hours and almost impossible to see after dark which can pose a real problem.

Recall all the times you’ve waited for someone to find your home late at night, a new friend or colleague visiting for the first time, a cab driver picking you up before a night on the town, a driver delivering some late night Chinese or Indian, or heaven forbid a policeman or ambulance responding to a distress call. How many times have visitors arrived late or not at all due to the difficulty of spotting your house in the dark?

Fortunately there is a ray of light shining through all of this doom and gloom – an LED light, to be precise.

Short for “light-emitting diode,” an LED is a highly powerful and efficient lamp which provides the perfect way to illuminate your house number during the evening hours. You will never again have to wait endlessly for a cab driver who may never come or worry if the police or ambulance will be able to find your home promptly in the event of an emergency.

In addition to making your house number discernible from the street, an LED will make it easier for you to find your keys before entering your home after a night out. Not only will an LED house number make your life easier, it will also add some aesthetic appeal to your home, helping it stand out amongst the crowd for all the right reasons.

Under Floor Air Conditioning: what makes our systems different?

By using the plenum beneath a raised floor as the ventilation zone instead of traditional ceiling based air conditioning, it is possible to eliminate much of the ceiling based duct and pipe work leading to huge savings in construction materials, installation costs, fit out and reconfiguration costs.

Building services traditionally consume a large proportion of a building’s operational energy use, and construction practice often leads to wastage of materials and consequently the embodied energy stored within these materials.  By adopting the AET Flexible Space approach, an amount of this energy can be conserved using modular, pre-engineered equipment, especially the time and energy spent during the construction phase.

Removing the ceiling void can also have a huge impact on the use of internal space within a building.  Duplicating the floor void for cable management and ventilation lends itself to height savings in new build construction and refurbishments alike.  The floor void beneath the raised access floor is usually in the region of 150 – 200mm, and a ceiling based air conditioning system typically requires a void of 600-700mm bringing the total services space requirement to 750-900mm.  By adopting an underfloor system with floor level supply and floor level return, ceiling ductwork and lateral pipework can virtually be eliminated.  A floor void of only 250-300mm is required to accommodate the cabling and fan terminals, equating to increased headroom of 200-400mm in this example.  Where the slab to slab height is severely restricted, a slimline fan terminal which only requires 180mm floor void space can be used.

In new build construction this height saving can lend to additional lettable space or reduced building height, which in some cases is necessary to achieve planning permission. A tall building in Hong Kong adopted this system and was able to fit in an additional floor for every ten floors constructed due to the height savings created by this concept.  Transfer this across construction and it has been said that it is possible to construct another building with the cost savings realised.  Build ten buildings, get one free!  Undoubtedly attractive to any forward thinking developer.

Plenum based air conditioning can also maximise the floor to ceiling height in refurbishment projects.  In the UK, older building stock often has features such as limited headroom and smaller floor plates making it a challenge for engineers to accommodate the preferred 2.5m headroom using traditional ceiling based air conditioning systems.  Perimeter systems can be considered but this brings the penalty of loss of prime lettable space and also makes it difficult to ventilate internal areas.  Without a minimum floor to ceiling height of around 2.5m letting agents are reluctant to promote commercial space as Grade A accommodation, all important to today’s corporate clients. Testament to this approach is the number of refurbished buildings that have adopted the underfloor concept as a solution to slab to slab height restriction. 28 Savile Row, Tricorn House in Birmingham, 76-88 Wardour Street, Bloomberg at City Gate House in Finsbury Square, No. 1 Cavendish Place, 20 Cannon Street, 196 Deansgate in Manchester, 180 Great Portland Street amongst others in the growing refurbishment market.

The height saving benefits of under floor systems are well proven, but that is not all. Minimising waste and energy consumption is achievable through using modular and flexible equipment that is easy to operate, clean, maintain and re-use. In this way UFAC systems can help architects, developers and clients’ future proof their buildings for the next twenty, thirty or forty years.  The ability to adapt to change of use is all important and as most HVAC systems are fixed, they can easily become unsuitable or even redundant leading to huge wastage and high costs.

Facilities managers are frequently challenged by the pace of office churn, often restricted by fixed, stand-alone services with minimal or no control.  Complaints of draughts and cold feet are common and so many times one sees ceiling diffusers switched off or covered with sticky tape and paper in an attempt to divert air when workers are based in a less than ideal position.  AET Flexible Space systems are modular and adaptable. Plug and play fantiles easily interchange with 600mm raised access floor panels allow fast reconfiguration of office layout and easily accommodating minor changes and major churn.  Equipment features simple yet sophisticated controls for individual users and facilities managers offering superior control of indoor environments compared with traditional ceiling based or wall mounted air conditioning units.

Fantiles have integrated fatronic controllers allowing users local adjustment of temperature and fan speed to suit personal comfort.  Local adjustment of CAM units by service and maintenance engineers is easy accessed via the flexmatic display mounted on the unit face.  Systems can be now be configured using the latest flexvisor software, allowing remote adjustment and monitoring. Facilities managers can use the flexvisor system to monitor usage and consequently streamline operational efficiency and it also provides a user friendly and cost effective solution to keeping the BMS updated.

It is interesting to note that when users are free to choose their environmental temperature they often choose higher temperatures than engineers design for; as a result considerable savings in operational energy can be made.  A rise in setpoint temperature of 1oC will often reduce energy by as much as 10%. The FM can observe that users are selecting higher setpoints and can re-set the zone units accordingly, enabling fully functional control.

Air conditioning is often the biggest source of complaint in office environments with around 20-30% of workers not happy with their temperature; either being too hot or too cold.  Adaptable, flexible and re-usable HVAC systems are crucial for providing comfortable work space for commercial interiors.  A recent World Green Building Council report demonstrates that the design of an office impacts the health, wellbeing and productivity of its occupants.  Indoor air quality, thermal comfort, noise and interior layouts can all be effected by heating and ventilation design.  Flexible Space systems can eliminate user complaints with the personal local control feature, or by simply relocating fan terminal units to an alternative position.  With worker comfort being directly attributed to productivity and around 90% of business operating costs attributed to staff, the potential impacts of indoor environment design should be a major concern.

The London property market is on average eight times the national average and central London properties are very much reserved for the wealthy. The central suburbs have grown in popularity and this has lead to many house conversions to studio flats and luxury apartments.

Apartment living in the central suburbs of London areas is very much in vogue now with the professionals and with many over the half a million pound mark – making good use of limited space can be a challenge.

However apartments on the top level of a building give ample opportunities to open up the roof space to allow extra light coming into the property amplifying the perceived space considerably. This is exactly what one architect did for a property development in the Battersea area. The property is an apartment in a converted Victorian terraced property with one bedroom, shower room and open plan kitchen. To the outside there is a large seating area overlooking the views of Battersea.

The project involved putting a fixed flat roof light over the kitchen area so that it allowed the light across the whole of the open plan living space giving a lighter and roomier feel. The minimal look of the roof light enhanced the architectural finish of the apartment providing a great source of natural light, as well as ample night time star gazing opportunities.

Thomas and Spiers Architects are a London, Suffolk and Hertfordshire based Architectural practice, specialising in individual residential designs, with high attention to detail, and strong environmental performance, working on both renovating and extending existing buildings and creating new and exciting homes.

Paul Thomas comments on the conversion using Roof Maker rooflights “Being very aware of environmental and fabric performance, we were impressed by the triple glazed units, measures to reduce risk of overheating, together with the overall u-values being achieved.”

Environmental performance is a key measure used in Roof Maker rooflights with industry leading U values and 30 year life expectancy of products covered by a 20 year unit seal warranty. This why many architects and interior designers look toward our products when specifying for clients. We can currently achieve a U-value of 0.6W/m2k for Triple and as low as 0.3W/m2k for Quadruple glazing using phenolic foam in our Flat slide open rooflights!

NVELOPE, the rainscreen cladding support specialist has supplied its NV3 system to a new build Maths and PE teaching block at Repton School in Derbyshire. The ‘Repton Precinct’, which replaces an old demolished building, features cladding support by NVELOPE’s NV3 concealed, mechanical fixing system.

Repton School, a co-educational English independent school, required the new two storey teaching block to mediate well between the award winning 400 Hall building, and the historic school buildings in the wider Repton campus.  Derby-based main contractor B&K Building Services appointed specialist rainscreen installer A2O Cladding to install the rainscreen cladding on this project.  A2O Cladding worked alongside the project architect Franklin Ellis Architects to develop the detailed design for approximately 400m² of Trespa Meteon and Aerolite vertical cladding.  This included the specification of NVELOPE’s NV3 system to support the rainscreen systems.

An original sandstone effect was achieved by installing TI Aerolite, while Trespa Meteon was used to create a more modern look. NVELOPE’s NV3 versatile cladding support system was the ideal solution for this project, as the brackets bear the weight of the cladding, absorbing the dead loads and the wind loads, which allows for adequate expansion and contraction.

“We required a cost effective system which would neatly support the cladding, without disrupting the aesthetics of the building’s envelope” says Tim Gray, Project Director, A2O Cladding. “The NV3 system allowed us to install the cladding with concealed fixing, giving the department a seamless finish whilst maintaining its stunning appearance.”

This scheme utilised the NVELOPE online ‘Project Builder’ design and pricing service, which provides a complete, project specific cladding solution for architects with a very fast turnaround. The ‘Project Builder’ design and pricing software by NVELOPE can speed up the cladding specification process for contractors, providing them with a bracket layout and an indicative m2 rate to meet their precise requirements.

The NVELOPE materials used were manufactured from extruded aluminium alloys conforming to BS EN 573-3 and production BS EN 755.

For further information on NVELOPE Rainscreen Systems, visit www.nvelope.com or call the company direct on +44 (0)1707 333 396.

The new BAFE website is now live; featuring a cleaner, easier to navigate look enabling fire protection companies and end users alike to find the information they require with ease.

BAFE is the independent, third party certification registration body for quality in the UK fire protection industry.

For more than 30 years BAFE have been developing schemes for UKAS accredited Certification Bodies to assess and approve fire protection companies to recognised quality standards.

If you require fire protection services for your premises then YOU NEED BAFE to be sure that the companies that provide them are competent, meet all the appropriate standards and have been regularly, independently audited.

At BAFE we endeavour for all of our certified registered companies to be easily found by end users looking for Third Party Certified competent Fire Protection.

Information on the website has been reviewed and has been broken down to be clearer for people new to BAFE but also to Fire Protection companies looking to register to one or more of our schemes. Our Frequently Asked Questions section has also been comprehensibly assessed by the BAFE team which we hope you will find useful.

This new site keeps our popular search feature to easily find BAFE registered fire protection companies near you and also introduces the BAFE registered company directory. This allows the end user to search for companies by scheme, company name, postcode or alphabetically. It also provides a single directory profile page for every BAFE registered company that they can link their site to. This will provide a quick option for companies to use to verify their registration with BAFE schemes.

The new website is a positive step in helping BAFE continue to promote quality in fire safety. We feel with this redesign we will hold a longer engagement with potential end users, who will understand that using Third Party Certified companies is a clear decision for their fire safety needs to uphold duties with Fire Safety Legislation across the UK.

Flying the flag for Britain, the January Furniture Show 2016 will be the place to be for architects, designers and specifiers to see the Best of British designs.

Following the success of last year’s event, the January Furniture Show is set to be bigger and better as it celebrates taking on additional space for its all-star line-up – with over 85% of its exhibitors being UK-based.

The show, which runs over four days (24-27 January) has expanded into Hall 5 as more quality industry names join up creating a one-stop shop of the latest furniture and furnishings.

Said Laraine Janes, co-director of the January Furniture Show: “There has been a huge emphasis on buying British and the promotion of home-based businesses over the past decade. The January Furniture Show provides a fantastic platform for those companies to showcase their products to a range of key national and international buyers.

“Not only that, we’re starting to see confidence grow in the market which has resulted in the event booking up fast with new exhibitors alongside an 85% re-booking from last year. It all goes to confirm our position as the UK’s number one furniture and furnishings event.”

Architects and designers visiting the 2016 January Furniture Show will gain a wide range of furniture and furnishings inspiration with the newly added Fabric Pavilion and Flooring Showcase which includes some of the best known names in the business.

The unrivalled exhibitor list of over 400 major names attracts retailers, interior designers, contract buyers, architects and developers to the NEC in Birmingham – an ideal venue for the furniture industry’s annual showcase event.

Parker Knoll, Ultra Furniture, Serene Furnishings, TCS, Rauch, Alstons, Sherborne, Buoyant Upholstery, Baker Furniture, Gallery Direct, Blue Bone, Duresta, Willis & Gambier and Stone the Crows and are just some of the renowned British brand names that are taking bigger and better stands for the 2016 event ready to showcase their wares to the UK architect and interior design market.

Said Laraine: “Those who are interested in sourcing products for commercial or domestic projects can see all their main suppliers under one roof in a day. The January Furniture Show is the first opportunity of the year to see a selection of the very latest new and exclusive developments and even meet the design teams on the stands to discuss any upcoming projects.”

The January Furniture Show was recently named 2015 Best New Show by readers of Interiors Monthly.
