Irrigation systems

Irrigation systems are adapting towards more sustainable practices to suit our increasing global population, climate change and increased water scarcity.

For 63 years T-T Pumps Ltd has been innovating reliable solutions for industrial, agricultural and domestic needs – including Hidro Boost clean water pressurisation sets. Ideal for modern irrigation, they have been supplied to equestrian centres, football clubs, golf clubs and other applications.

Used for crop growth, livestock welfare and sports pitch maintenance, the set you use depends on the site’s parameters. The Hidro Boost comes in a variety of sizes – with single, twin, triple, quadruple, and bespoke sets available for domestic to industrial applications.

When choosing a water booster for irrigation you must consider the water demand and total head.

The total head is a combination of elements such as pressure loss from fluid friction in the system; vertical and ‘static’ lift across the pumped line; and pressure requirements at discharge points such as water features.

These factors combine with the water demanded of the application to reveal the site-specific duty point which must be achieved for optimal performance. Consideration around the best sprinklers, valves and other elements is advised to reduce system inefficiencies to benefit the environment and your energy expenditure.

Variable speed control drives can improve efficiency, such as the Vasco range available with T-T’s Hidro Boost. They adjust a booster’s flow rate in response to fluctuating demands, reliably keeping the system’s pressure levels within a pre-set range. This uses less energy than a fixed speed set, which aims to retain a desired flow rate through switching pumps on and off.

Manufactured with stainless steel, Hidro Boosts are resistant to high pressure flow and chemical corrosion. These features lend themselves to a low level of maintenance and long operational life, reducing the need for regular repairs and replacements, therefore cutting maintenance costs and the impact that upkeep could have on the environment.

When choosing a water boosting set for irrigation applications, take care to consider the lifetime of the system and if it will require regular maintenance or replacements; the components inside of the booster and if it has been correctly sized to suit the site’s specific criteria; and how the system will regulate flow pressure for both energy efficient and reliable irrigation.
