Precision Cutting Simplified

Shaper Origin is the world’s first handheld CNC. Origin allows users to perform complex cuts easily, quickly, and without templates, regardless of the size of the workpiece. Computer vision technology tracks the tool’s position on the workpiece and automated motion control makes micro adjustments that keep the cutter on the intended toolpath. Origin’s unique combination of a natural user interface and computer-guided accuracy provide a template for how digitization will augment and empower the woodworking industry for years to come.

Shaper Tools’ philosophy emphasizes accessibility. WIth Origin, you bring the tool to the material rather than the material to the tool. Woodworker’s can take Origin to the jobsite and can work with confidence on finished pieces, knowing that each cut will be precise down to the millimeter. Accessibility also applies to use of the tool itself. With no programming knowledge necessary to use Origin, the tool’s interface brings precision cutting to a broad user base, including many professionals long deterred by the rigid nature of static numerically controlled (CNC) machines and the technical knowledge required to operate them.

“Working with Origin is easy. If you get an idea, you just make a quick drawing on your PC, and then send it directly to the machine and just start cutting. Origin is small and you can take it to your job site, which I think is really cool.” – Maximilian Messner, a joiner & floorer based in Fridoling, Germany

Origin helps woodworkers expand the number of projects they can take on and complete without needing to expand their shop’s footprint. Unlike many other power tools, Origin doesn’t have one single application; it was designed for jobs ranging from the routine to the elaborate, helping you streamline your workflows.

The Elaborate: How to Cut Inlays

You can cut both the positives and the negatives of your inlay project with Origin and you’ll see how the micro adjustments in offsets make precision fitment a breeze. Confidently stay on your line while taking -0.002” off your edge at a time.

  1. Cut the positive parts of your design out of ⅛”-¼” material to a 0” offset.
  2. Move to the floor and lay out enough Shaper Tape to cut your entire design.
  3. Pocket out the material first.
  4. Then cut the inside of the design.
  5. Use negative offsets (-0.002” increments) to achieve your desired fit.

Order Shaper Origin for your shop today and see how you can integrate into your existing processes and toolset. Learn more about Shaper Origin at shapertools.com or watch Origin in action at one of our live webinar (available in English, German and French) at live.shapertools.com.
