Premier Ship Models

Interior design is not something you’d necessarily associate with a maritime-based model-making company, but hopefully by reading this we will be able to highlight why they do in fact complement one another very well.
Premier Ship Models has established itself as one of the foremost names in model-making today. Founded in 2001, we are a leading, specialist ship-model manufacturer and distributor with a passion for innovation. Our exquisitely detailed models are built using a combination of traditional techniques with the latest technology to achieve ultimate precision and quality. Our core values are built around providing the best customer service through supplying excellence for our clients.
As of 2024, we have shipped to over 85 countries worldwide, and are now looking to venture out into the world of model cars, trams, trains and planes! Furthermore, we will be attending the Dubai Boat Show on the 28th February, expanding our global outreach.
Recent projects:
We operate on a number of different levels, mainly consisting of custom model making, restoration projects and standard builds, all complete with delivery and whatnot.
A key recent project of ours was for a high-end private client, specifically a cruise liner specialist who offer accommodation for those who wish to live at sea on a full-time basis. Their ships provide a brilliant quality of life for those on-board, with cinemas, theatres, fantastic cuisine and other entertainment.
After we were contacted, they requested a quote for six separate models; three of their brand-new cruise liner, and three of a specific room aboard said ship.
Due to the dynamics of the architectural model, which will be expanded on shortly, as well as the display area for the ship models, this was an unprecedented challenge for us, but one we approached with nothing but keen enthusiasm!
The ship models:
All three ship models were to be 3D printed. It is an incredibly complex profession. It requires you to understand three main things:
- The material
- The printer
- The methodology of the piece and your desired end result
The ship models were to measure 48 inches in length. It was agreed that they would be waterline models sitting on an LED screen base, together with an additional LED screen behind the model itself. The private client would then provide the animations for the screens.
Furthermore, the lower deck has an opening, which is able to fold up and down. This allows line of sight into the Marine Lounge, adding that extra layer of detail.
To construct the models, 3D simulation modelling and subsequent laser-cutting were to be utilised, before then of course 3D printing.
The architectural models:
The architectural models were also 3D printed; however, these were slightly more complex due to a number of various factors.
They measured 31.5 by 35.5 inches each, allowing for plenty of room to show off the exquisite levels of detail. Furthermore, one of the walls was made from plexiglass, to allow you to see in from both the side and of course, the top.
What made these so complex was the sheer level of detail at such a small scale, as well as the fact that each little screen is an actual working screen. The televisions were functional with both visuals and audio, playing a loop of an introductory video, and combining this with all the working lamps, lights and other intricacies was a real challenge.
We were left thrilled with our level of work, as was the client, and now the models are on display at various locations around the globe, with a couple being taken to a show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The models were a huge talking point, with everyone being left fascinated by the detail!
What this means for PSM going forward:
With this profound success in a new and unfamiliar field, we can’t wait for future projects involving architecture. Architectural models are the next big step for Premier Ship Models, with our expertise in maritime modelling proving to be invaluable, and now we have the capabilities to branch off into new directions whilst retaining that formidable core and structure throughout the company.
We approach every project with the utmost professionalism and excitement, whether it’s maritime, architectural, motoring or anything else, but this project in particular was an important stepping stone, as it allowed us to prove ourselves in a new field.
Our models really provide that finishing touch to a room, especially for those with a keen eye for detail. Interior designers can add that blend of culture and history to rooms with our models, completing the entire aesthetic. Maritime enthusiasts love our work, and now architectural ones can too!
