LET THERE BE LIGHT: WHY PRIVACY WINDOW FILMS ARE BETTER THAN BLINDS

‘Light and airy’ are buzzwords for magazine-beautiful homes, but in a crowded city like London, letting in the light and maintaining privacy can be a tricky business. So how do you find the balance?

Window films are on the up. A great alternative to blinds and curtains, window films allow the light in without the risk of passersby peeping in.

Since launching in 2003, Purlfrost has been providing stylish window film alternatives for the home, as well as practical solutions for offices and shop windows. Capitalising on their years of experience working in film and TV art departments, the team has created a broad range of products to suit all property styles, from period to contemporary, chic to quirky and from all-over patterns to barely there.

An all-over pattern have a lace-like effect on glass, providing privacy during the day while still allowing the light in and views in. Designed for internal application, the film can be removed at a later stage, making it ideal for rented properties, and is also suitable for bathrooms and kitchens and resistant to condensation.

A made-to-measure house number sticker can do wonders for your property’s curb appeal. Ideal for glass panels, or the transom or fanlight above your door, they come in frosted film, coloured vinyl and stained-glass effect. The online design facility allows you to create your own house number in a choice of materials, colours and fonts.

For the designer look, check out the Flutterby designs created exclusively for Purlfrost by Christin Yu. The renowned graphic designer comes from a fashion background, working as a print designer for Alexander McQueen and Teatum Jones since graduating from Goldsmith’s. Using photographs of butterflies, she has painstakingly created beautifully intricate, colourful repeat patterns that have proved a hit with interior designers.

Once you have picked a design, simply enter the measurements and the pattern will be resized and printed to those exact measurements, delivered free to your door and applied within minutes. And if you don’t fancy a DIY job, Purlfrost offers a professional window film installation service covering London and the South East.

“Purlfrost is offering Design Buy Build readers a 15% Off discount on all the products on their website. Use code DBB17 at check out. This offer is valid until June 15th.”
