DP Structures
DP Structures were commissioned to create the conceptual tapered helical staircase for a new build contemporary farmhouse in Cumbria. The design required individual tread patterns forming as the stairs tapered from the bottom tread and reduced by 200mm as it reached the landing to enable the staircase to fit onto the gallery. The treads were manufactured from steel then encapsulated in European Oak leaving a 10mm shadow gap where they attached to the stringer. Each stringer was a twin plate assembly, fully welded to the underside which enabled the 12mm curved glass panels to be bonded into the void centrally. The 50mm polished stainless-steel tubular handrail was formed into a scroll and then scribed using the curved glass balustrade as the guide and then the slit produced in the tube enabled the handrail to go over the glass panels and was bonded onto into position.
