Barking Riverside, London

Barking Riverside is one of the largest development sites in London (185 hectares) and is one the most ambitious and important new developments in the UK. The vision was to provide a model for sustainable living in the 21st century where best practice is used throughout.
Barking Riverside has been built on the former Barking Power Station site and so making it developable has required land remediation, site clearance and changes to land levels to plan for flood risk.
With 40% of the development designed as green space, Charcon Infilta block paving provided a permeable surface to the hard landscaped areas, allowing water filtration through voids between the paving blocks to mitigate flood risk across the site.
With sustainable living at the heart of this project, Charcon Infilta block paving helped tackle the necessary drainage requirements while Charcon’s natural stone replica paving, StoneMaster, provided a wonderful landscape setting with up to 50% non-primary materials within its mix.
