Brightwood Flooring And Granwax Bring Burton Joyce Hall Back To Life
Burton Joyce Village Hall was first built in 1923 and over the years has been used for a variety of purposes, including a school for local children. It is now an integral part of the community and is used on a daily basis for dancing classes, social gatherings and even weddings.
However, this increased use of the hall was starting to take its toll, especially on its maple wood floor. Despite regular cleaning, the rise in footfall was having a negative effect, with protective seals being worn away on a daily basis leaving the floor looking tired and worn. It was because of this that Matthew Bright of Brightwood Flooring was called in to rescue the floor before any further damage occurred.
“The floor was last renovated around 12 years ago and despite the best efforts of the care takers at the hall, dirt had started to build up. This, together with the sheer number of people walking over the floors every week, was having a harmful effect,” explains Matthew Bright, Owner of Brightwood Flooring.
The hall’s original floors are made from softwood, but at some point in its history a maple wood floor was laid on top. To bring this surface back to life Matthew started by sanding the floors right back to the boards. Once this was complete, he applied four coats of Master Finish – Matt Finish from Granwax, using an industrial drier in between each coat to speed up the drying process. Master Finish, a fast curing, two component water-based polyurethane finish, has been specifically created for wooden floors that are subjected to heavy wear, so was the perfect choice for Burton Joyce Village Hall.
“The regular dance lessons and social get-togethers held at the Hall had left their mark in terms of heel indentations and scuff marks, so sanding the floors back to the bare boards gave me a smooth, even base from which to start. Once this was done the Master Finish from Granwax helped to bring the floor back to its former glory, whilst also protecting it. The whole project took five days to complete and I am very happy with the results,” continues Matthew.
