At last an exterior timber that is economical, durable and chemical-free

OrganoWood is the answer to projects that need durable yet economical exterior timbers – without any environmental worries. Instead of the heavy-metal biocides usually used in impregnated timber, OrganoWood uses Silica – the second most abundant element in the earth’s crust.

Inspired by the fossilisation process, Silica is bound into the wood fibres to create a durable layer of protection against rot and fire. As an inert element, Silicon is safe and environment friendly, posing no risks to both health and ecosystem.

The timber is then coated with another Silicon solution, making it water repellent so that water simply bounces off its surface (just like a new rain jacket). This protects the timber from dirt and improves its longevity.

OrganoWood is available as decking or cladding boards, which will weather to a beautiful silver-grey, just like natural timber. Cambridge based Ecochoice is readily available ((0845 6381340) to assist you with any details on OrganoWood or any other exterior timber requirements.

Leafield Environmental has enhanced its external recycling bin range by offering the Envirobank Split dual container with a food waste aperture option. If sent to landfill, food waste rots and generates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas whereas if routed to anaerobic digestion it can be a valuable source of energy.

Of equal, if not greater importance, is the fact that non-segregated food waste can contaminate other valuable waste streams. Even a small amount of food waste can cause a six tonne skip of mixed recyclate to be rejected at the commercial recycling facility, leaving a cost penalty to be paid.

The Envirobank Split accommodates two individual waste streams in two 90-litre wheelie bins accessed for emptying via the hinged front. It is designed with a patented double skin honeycomb structure for ultimate strength and durability, yet its modern lines make it equally suitable for use both internally or externally. The colour-coded apertures conform to WRAP guidelines and include graphics for the waste stream to be collected, as standard.

As the law moves towards the mandatory segregation of food waste (already in place in Scotland) the Envirobank Split is ideally placed to assist in this progress.

The very latest in fire retardant fabrics and wallcoverings for hospitality, leisure and care home sectors has been unveiled by iLiv Contract Fabrics. iLiv is pushing the boundaries and bringing inspirational, co-ordinated ideas to interior design, with its new Expression collection.

Composed of striking painted abstract prints, geometric wovens and a luxurious velvet, it is a collection of contemporary inherently flame retardant fabrics.

The dramatic colouring of the 24-strong collection includes noir, putty, midnight, aubergine and pewter including modern brush strike stripes, graphic textured geometrics and brush-stroke florals in six colour stories.

The concept was to create a dynamic, inspirational range, offering hotels, guest houses, restaurants, care homes and even healthcare environments a stylish alternative to current options in the market.

CEO of SMD Group’s iLiv brand, Jason Kenworthy, said: “Our latest collection brings the same fresh designs to leisure and healthcare spaces as we do to the home market, but without compromising the practical aspect.

“All of our fabrics are fire retardant, hard-wearing and add a new dimension in terms of flair and design.”

The Expression collection had a worldwide showcase launch at the major Heimtextil exhibition in Frankfurt in January, where it was welcomed for its dual features of style and practicality.

In high risk environments where large numbers of people are moving about it is vital that in the event of a real fire, retardancy of materials will slow the spread of fire to enable a safe evacuation.

As one of the early pioneers of flame retardancy, all SMD products are inherent and permanent to the fabric itself and are not limited to the yarn.

With a printing facility onsite to meet urgent deadlines, SMD’s activities provide comprehensive manufacturing facilities, supported by a 10-strong in-house design and sourcing team using the very latest market trends. All aspects of production including spinning, finishing and stock support are also available.

Working as a residential surveyor and valuer is the perfect way forward for those with an interest in property. This professional and well respected career commands excellent salary prospects and, due to an impending skills shortage in the industry, demand for surveying services is ever increasing.

The SAVA School of Surveying is the first training provider to offer a vocational route into the residential surveying and valuation profession, with the full support of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Working closely with RICS’ experienced surveyors and lenders, SAVA, who have training bases in Milton Keynes, London and Barnsley, developed the level 6 Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation, drawing on over a decade of industry knowledge.

The diploma offers a part-time alternative to university education for those with new career ambitions in surveying, and learners can expect to qualify in as little as 18 months. The course is structured to allow learners to continue to work full time whilst qualifying.

Once qualified, SAVA graduates are eligible for direct entry into RICS at Associate member level, meaning they can offer RICS products such as HomeBuyer Reports and valuations, as well as having the prestigious AssocRICS designation after their name. In addition, the qualification provides the perfect stepping-stone towards full RICS Chartered Surveyor status.

Hilary Grayson, Head of Surveying Services at SAVA, comments, “Innovation has always been at the heart of SAVA. The residential surveying industry is set to suffer from a skills shortage caused by an ageing workforce and the traditional degree route into the profession is simply not feasible for everyone.

“We’re offering those with family and existing work commitments the chance to pursue a new career without sacrificing all their time,” Hilary says. “This blended learning approach is perfect for learners looking to study while they work, and we have a dedicated team of expert trainers working hard to ensure that our online material is just as comprehensive and engaging as the face-to-face sessions.

“The course is challenging and a big commitment to undertake, but the career is very rewarding. We are proud to have developed a qualification that meets RICS standards and are excited to be able to offer this new opportunity to those looking to kick start their career in surveying.”

The SAVA School of Surveying holds three course intakes per year – Milton Keynes, London and a northern venue – with each intake limited to just 40 places. The school holds regular open days to promote the course and career opportunities available. For more information, please visit the SAVA website.

The SAVA School of Surveying, created in 2014, emerged from Surveyors and Valuers Accreditation (SAVA) which is owned by National Energy Services Ltd, the UK’s home for energy assessors, home inspectors, surveyors and low carbon professionals.

The UK’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring Karndean Designflooring is expanding its popular Van Gogh Wood collection. Inspired by reclaimed natural wood materials, the twelve distinct new plank designs replicate the unique look that comes from the transformation of wood over time, in addition to processes such as burning, liming and smoking.

The four groups, French Oaks, American Redwood, Scottish Beech and Mexican Cypress ensure a grain and colour palette to suit a wide variety of commercial and residential projects.

The four lightly lime-washed French Oak looks, Tawny Oak, Burgundy Oak, Hessian Oak and Honey Oak are reminiscent of salvaged antique flooring. The rich grain details and large scaled planks (48”x 7”) complement both traditional and contemporary architecture, and the larger size means reduced downtime and installation costs.

The collection also includes three unique designs inspired by American Redwood railway sleepers – Reclaimed Redwood, Aged Redwood and Salvaged Redwood. Running with the theme of reclaimed woods, Karndean’s product designers were drawn to the unique detail and texture of the Redwood ties, which over the years had aged beautifully.

Introducing wire brushing and etching techniques, they have taken the natural aging process one step further with these three designs, giving the American Redwood designs the look of repurposed timber without the practical drawbacks of real wood such as splintering, cracking and warping.

A perfect foundation for any commercial environment, the three rich brown, smoked designs create a rich and warm canvas. Incorporating fuming and smoking techniques that have been used by real wood flooring manufacturers for years, the rich brown tones of our Burnished Beech and Smoked Beech planks can accompany nearly any décor scheme, whilst the striking variation of Charred Oak makes a real statement.

The new collection is rounded off by the stunning Lime-washed Cypress and Burnished Cypress. Combining the limed finish of Honey Oak and the burnt effect of Charred Oak, these two designs are some of the most detailed in the entire collection. The result of liming and smoking techniques is a more refined and sophisticated aesthetic, perfect for any commercial space benefiting from a highly realistic, rustic feel.

“Our new Van Gogh designs are our boldest to date. They are a welcome addition and reflect the trends we’re seeing for authentic and textured interiors for commercial and residential applications,” commented Paul Barratt, managing director at Karndean Designflooring.

“The collection is not only design-led, but also retains all the durability, ease of maintenance and availability our customers have come to rely on.’’

Available with a recently extended 15 year commercial warranty and R10 slip ratings, the complete Karndean Van Gogh collection will now feature a total of 32 wood designs.

A new home for the Leicester Riders basketball team brought about a new approach to lighting the playing area for the game.

The Leicester Community Sports Arena is a £4.8m joint venture project between Leicester Riders, Leicester City Council and Leicester College, funded by the partners, and Sport England and the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.

The Arena is the new home to the Leicester Riders and Leicester Cobras Wheelchair Basketball Club, and will also be a regional ‘centre of excellence’ for the sport. It will also serve as Leicester College’s sport teaching and learning facility, and as a large multi-use sports venue for the local community.

LED Light Vision (LLV) is an LED lighting solutions company with the capability to provide design and installation solutions using high quality LED luminaires, controls and ancillary items.

Director of Operations Scott Williams explained that their proposals for the project included a concept not used before for professional basketball. The design concept was by Neville Moorcroft, technical Director at LLV, which provided for an advanced lighting and control system.

“There was great excitement about the new indoor venue – Leicester needed it and so did the Riders; they’d been playing at a venue in Loughborough for two years.

“We proposed a concept not used before in Europe for professional basketball, an Indirect LED lighting system without glare and flicker. We believe this sets the standard for future indoor arena lighting standards.”

This glare-free and high efficiency system provides a uniform light level across large spaces and is ideal for sports arenas, warehouses, superstores, large factories and airports. The light body is constructed of aluminum and a light’s lifespan is sub 50,000 hours and more.

“It also provides higher LUX lighting levels. For arenas such as the new facility in Leicester, the LUX levels normally required for televised basketball games is 1500lux; our system provides an average of some 2200lux in the Show Court for TV games,” added Williams.

Energy costs were high on the list of requirements with a full control system in place. This enables the lights to be used in areas where they’re only needed, which gives additional savings and reduces running costs – against traditional lighting systems – by up to 70%.

As well as the lighting for the arena’s main hall, LLV also provided the car parking and external lighting, and lighting for the offices, hallways, toilets and reception area.

The office, toilets and reception area lighting solution was a slim and simple design; polycarbonate body and cover-diffuser recessed into the ceilings.

A special feature of the project – just for the Riders – was washing of the outside of the building using a red LED.

For more information on LED Light Vision (LLV) solutions call 0116 234 7029, email sales@ledlightvision.co.uk  or visit www.ledlightvision.co.uk

Newcastle College required replacement blinds for a large roofed area. The construction of metal and glass allied to the pitch of the pitch of the roof could have almost been designed as a sound reverberation chamber. The light needed controlling; the fabric had to be robust and durable with a very heavy bottom bar being specified on a blind of 6.0 m drop and the acoustics had to be addressed.

Nearly 400sqm of glazing, were shaded with the installation of 36 motorised blinds, each 2.0 m wide x 6.0 m drop using the Acoustis 50 fabric. The fabric colour chosen, 0730 (Slate Grey), providing excellent light control with its Tv (visible transmittance) level of 5% meaning that 95% of the light is prevented from entering the chamber. One fabric supplying both light control and acoustic comfort, change the colour and the same fabric offers acoustic comfort with improved heat control, the fabric in colour white having a Solar reflectance of over 70%.

So what is acoustic comfort?  You all know the problem, a busy restaurant, a happy drinks party, you are having difficulty understanding somebody only a few feet away, so you speak louder, they speak louder, everybody speaks louder and nobody can hear a flipping thing. Someone shouts, ‘the acoustics are rubbish in here’ and everybody nods. But what can be done about it?

The problem is not noise volume; it is the lack of clarity to the sound. Referred to by acousticians as speech intelligibility or sound reverberation, unintelligibility is caused by sound rebounding from surfaces of differing distances away from the source, their reflections, or echoes, taking varying lengths of time to return. A single sound becomes a chain, multi syllables and multi-words becoming a constant stream of sound. Multiply that up by a number of people speaking at the same time and there is your problem.

How do you solve it? Remove or reduce the reflections. Hard smooth wall and ceiling surfaces part of the problem – glass one of the biggest culprits.

If you could cover the glass with something that absorbs the sound, but is thin and capable of being quickly removed and put away discreetly when not required.

If you could cover the glass with something that also gives good light control, removing glare and provide daytime privacy.

If only there was a fabric that absorbs the sound, is thin, gives daytime privacy and good heat control.

There is, the Mermet Acoustis 50, an acoustically absorbent fabric, less than 1 mm thick, with both exceptional fire rating and stability.

Acoustic absorbance is a sought after benefit in many instances, but acoustical transparency can be required in others. The interiors industry regularly seek a fabric to cover walls or ceilings that is acoustically transparent in order that acoustically absorbent foams hidden behind them can still work – similarly home cinemas and screening rooms often wish to hide loudspeakers  within the wall without muffling the sound. The further requirements of fabrics in installations such as these being dimensional stability, allowing the fabric to be pulled taught into position without sagging over time, top level fire ratings along with an attractive easy to clean finish. The Mermet Screen Vision and Satine fabrics are both used in these respects, in the case of the Sv 10% in some considerable quantity.

Key to Mermet fabric use, be it for acoustic absorbance, transparency or another of its myriad other features, is the glass fibre core to the yarn. Mermet have been weaving in glass fibre for over 60 years, with coated yarns for the solar shading industry for over 40 years. The glass fibre cored yarn does not stretch, being made from sand it does not burn. These features facilitating the weaving of wide fabrics, to over 3.0 m, that do not stretch, do not move, lies flat, do not burn. All features required of interior fabrics particularly in the public sectors, be they for shading, tensile structures or large format printing/signage.

Manufacturing the yarn as well as weaving the fabric gives Mermet the control and expertise to engineer features into the fabrics, the yarn coating carrying UV stabilisers, additional fire retardation elements as well as colour pigment. This means Mermet understand and can control solar reflectance, transmission and absorption. With some of the latest coatings the same attention can be directed at thermal reflectance and transmittance. All properties being engineered into aesthetically attractive, workshop friendly, durable and therefore more sustainable fabrics.

The Satine, Screen Vision and Acoustis 50 fabrics referred to are just three of nearly 20 fabrics in the current 2015-18 collection, so many more fabrics, more choice and much more performance.

Design and architecture trends can lead to a number of challenges for consulting engineers specifying heating, ventilation and air conditioning.  Traditional ceiling based systems are usually fixed and inflexible due to associated duct and pipework.

Making use of the plenum beneath a raised access floor as the ventilation zone for air conditioning can overcome a number of these challenges and by adopting an air conditioning system which can both supply and return air via the floor plenum, architects are free to make use of ceiling space and features in a very different way, as well as attracting significant height savings.

The trendy feature of exposing ceilings in commercial offices lends to spacious, open interior space.  Structures and beams become interior features and are often left unfinished.  Current new build designs incorporate large floor plates, high ceilings and windows to maximise available light and enhance natural ventilation.  In refurbishments, space and access is often restricted, however there could be scope to add a further floor with dormer windows; often referred to in the industry as a dormer floor.

AET Flexible Space has been successfully retrofitted to a number of buildings with said dormer floors; for example; 196 Deansgate in Manchester, 76-88 Wardour Street, London and Network House in Hampton Hill amongst others.  Older buildings, even those without add on floors with dormer windows can also benefit from adopting under floor air conditioning, eliminating ceiling based services altogether and maximising the available floor to ceiling space; often achieving the British Council for Offices recommended 2.5 meters internal height.  The height savings calculated in refurbishments can offer a significant amount more available space and subsequently can lead to height savings.

AET Flexible Space has worked with architects to help achieve their design goals.  Jersey Energy undertook a complete refurbishment of the 10,000 sq. m Powerhouse building in the early 2000’s; the ceiling is a lattice of riveted steel ribs and Architects Manser Associates have achieved pleasing results with up lighting and underfloor air conditioning and at The Weighbridge Building in Marlow, designers were able to retain the existing beams by adopting underfloor air conditioning as part of a full refurbishment.

As well as increasing floor to ceiling height, plenum based air conditioning also allows the architects to retain structural features.  Many older buildings have beautiful ceilings, some of which have listed classification and must be preserved.  Modern buildings may have a lightweight structure in the form of a building envelope, such as the Arup designed Parkview Green building in Beijing.  New and older buildings may have an atrium incorporated into the design, and again, underfloor air conditioning systems can satisfy cooling and heating requirements within these open areas.

The options for providing comfortable heating and cooling in these modern spaces can be limiting and create a number of airflow challenges.  Yes, you can install traditional ceiling based air conditioning systems; exposing the ductwork can be considered artistic in an industrial way and some will look more aesthetically pleasing than others; but adopting an underfloor system allows architects to eliminate pipe and ductwork and experience total design freedom with regards to ceiling and other features.  This option is particularly suitable for historical and listed buildings where it simply may not be possible to introduce ceiling based systems such as chilled beams, VAV systems and fan coils as they virtually eliminate the possibility of retaining the architectural detail.

Other benefits of Under Floor Air Conditioning include excellent indoor air quality and the ability to introduce fresh air into a building without experiencing loss of some of the fresh air before it is adequately mixed into the space.  This loss of fresh air directly affects the ability of the selected system to dilute pollutants and minimise cross contamination; whereas underfloor supply systems introduce 100% of the fresh air without loss; creating high quality indoor environments.

Combined with the above is the enhanced user control of such systems.  Ceiling based systems are typically static with fixed centralised control.  Users are unlikely to be able to adjust temperature and fan speed or airflow to suit their optimum conditions.  This individual personal control of simple settings can enhance user comfort and satisfaction of the individual’s working environment, and the flexibility of modular systems means that fan terminals can easily be relocated to adapt to changing use of environment.

With the above in mind; is using a traditional ceiling based HVAC system as part of an exposed design the best option for providing comfort cooling to the occupants of the space?  Underfloor systems can offer the best of both, and it can be easily adapted and reconfigured for future changes in the use of space and occupant density.  AET Flexible Space are specialists in underfloor air conditioning technology and have worked with designers for over twenty years to overcome structural and height restrictions; as well as design challenges associated with new build and refurbishment projects alike.

Kitchen and bathroom worktop specialist, Max-Top, has revealed a brand new version of its surface sample box for its trade partners.

The resource will support specifiers, installers and retailers in educating consumers about the company’s unique surfaces and the benefits to buying the product.

The free of charge sample kit features a full set of the 10 finishes available in the range, including the popular Black Onyx Sparkle and Warm Grey, which have been cut to size and presented within a double layer of foam, ensuring an aesthetic finish and safe transit.

A cross-sectioned block of surface completes the kit, showcasing its patented interior honeycomb structure. This allows customers to see first-hand its strength and durability, while understanding its unique internal composition, as well as getting a sense and feel of the quality the product has to offer.

Stephen Moss, managing director of Max-Top Quartz, said: “The creation of the new sample box is the latest demonstration of our ongoing commitment to supporting our retailers and installers.

“It’s important that we provide the tools and resources required to make sure our products sell and one such way we can do this is by providing sample kits that match the quality finish of our surfaces. Our kit features an attractive black, sparkle finish, reflecting our signature style and design.

The new sample boxes are available now and will be provided upon request, as well as to all installers attending Max-Top Quartz training days, which take place monthly at Reading and Manchester locations.

In all forms of new and refurbished building construction, Specifiers today are seeking to reduce window frame sight lines to increase light transmittance. Aluprof, one of Europe’s leading systems companies, have designed a system with the slimmest of sight lines, the new ‘MB Slimline’ system.

With a fixed light and opening light aluminium face width of just 32.5mm Aluprof’s new ‘MB Slimline’ window offers both good looks and high thermal performance – something steel window systems cannot offer. U values of below 1.00 are achievable, as the new system will accept both double and triple glazing options coupled with aluminium profiles which use wide polyamide thermal break. With a wide range of profiles available, the ‘MB Slimline’ system can offer high inertia ratings and slim, deep profiles, offering the specifier the ability to use the system in any large, or small, window spaces.

Ideally suited to both new and replacement projects, in both residential and commercial environments, where slim lines are crucial to the aesthetic appearance of the building, the ‘MB Slimline’ system offers a complete solution.

‘MB Slimline’ is further proof of Aluprof’s innovative approach to fenestration solutions, establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading systems companies. The new system joins a wide portfolio of aluminium systems which includes curtain wall systems, doors windows and high performance aluminium fire rated systems.

Aluprof UK head office and extensive distribution centre is located in Altrincham, Cheshire. Aluprof systems increasingly being specified on a wide range of residential and commercial projects across the UK. Systems are designed, fabricated and installed by selected, specially trained companies, to ensure each fabricated product meets Aluprof exacting standards.

In today’s world, the security of a company’s personnel and important data can not be taken lightly.

As experts in the field of security, we are aware of how imperative it is that only those personnel who are authorised may gain entry to your building or specific areas within a building. With this in mind, we recommend that only one security solution will do – the Circlelock.

Our Circlelock high security portal is the most suitable ‘anti-tailgating’ product as it can prevent any attempt to gain unauthorised access and can be designed to confirm the identity of any user entering it. The Circlelock security portal is an ideal solution for highly sensitive, secondary or remote entrances that have lower foot fall requirements.

Formed from two curved sliding doors, the Circlelock opens the outside door upon the authorisation of an access control system. Once the user has entered the portal, a pre-set weight system or a more complex StereoVision system which allows the portal to visualise the user in a three dimensional format can be integrated within the door and will determine whether the user is alone or whether an unauthorised individual is accompanying. In addition to this, a 3rd party biometrics identification system can also be incorporated to ensure the correct match of biometric data of the user in accordance with a set database of authorised users for that door. Only when the security systems give a clear signal will the second door of the portal open and the secured area be entered.

At Boon Edam, we understand the importance of keeping a building’s users safe and its assets secure. We specialize in providing customizable access control solutions to many sectors including Colleges, Universities, Data Centres, Hospitals and Data Centres and are able to offer a wide range of access control barriers, turnstiles and gates.

Yeoman Rainguard’s XL Aluminium Rainwater System was chosen to add the finishing touch to an £11 million property in the desirable area of Virginia Water.

Built by development company Watersmead Homes who pride themselves in building properties of quality and style that exceed expectations, the Georgian style home covers approximately 12,000 square feet over 4 floors.

Constructed out of Cotswold Stone, Watersmead ensured that the property combines practicality with style meeting the high standards and demands of the discerning purchaser.

Meeting such standards required the use of high quality building materials and systems which included choosing the right rainwater system.

“We obviously needed gutters and downpipes which not only matched the style of the house but were of a quality which would give the homeowner many years of maintenance free service whilst retaining its colour and style well into the future. Yeoman Rainguard’s stylish XL Aluminium rainwater system fitted the bill.” Explained Mrs Gill Burns of Watersmead Homes.

150 x 100mm MOG XL Aluminium gutters were installed along with a 75 x 75mm square downpipe with the stylish look being completed with Cast Aluminium Plain Hoppers.

Finished in a durable black textured powder coating which eliminates colour bleaching and ensures a life expectancy of the rainwater system to that of 25 years and more.

“The rainwater systems look perfect on the finished property and we are very pleased with the quality of products and service that Yeoman Rainguard gave us.” Concluded Mrs Burns.

The flexibility and robust qualities of todays’ retractable canopy products means gardens and outdoor living spaces, even in the UK, can now be enjoyed no matter what the weather.

Shade Zone UK Ltd has the largest range of innovative and bespoke retractable canopy products that the UK has to offer and already work with garden designers all across the nation by specifying, supply and installation.

It is now becoming a common requirement that home owners want to enjoy their gardens not only by day, but also late into the evenings and even in less desirable weather conditions; whether it be the flexibility to shade from the suns’ harmful UV rays or to offer cover & protection from the elements.

To enable them to do so, flexible outdoor coverage is a feature more and more homeowners are looking to have incorporated within their own garden designs and layouts – whether it is to offer continuous coverage from the home onto a new or existing garden patio, which can be opened and closed by the touch of a button, or independent structures that are free-standing to create stand-alone outdoor areas away from the house, that create idyllic weather protected spaces.

As well as dealing with end-users directly, Shade Zone UK Ltd have now formed closer ties to a large number of garden designers and landscapers, who are already tapping into their knowledge of high end retractable products, to ensure they meet their own clients’ remits to create such outdoor living spaces that can be enjoyed all year round. The aim is to create even more partnerships with companies all across the UK.

Now with a large portfolio of residential schemes that have been previously supplied and installed, garden designers are able to draw upon the Shade Zones experience and product knowledge to highlight what systems would, and would not, work for whatever project they should be working on.

With the largest range of bespoke aluminium and timber structures the UK has to offer, available in a wide range of frame and fabric colours, Shade Zone UK Ltd provides detailed product information, drawings and prices to ensure that the designers own clients’ expectations are not only met, but exceeded!!

Established in 2007, Shade Zone UK Ltd is based in Hull, East Yorkshire and operates nationwide to offer the full UK their services and products. Additionally, to enable them to fully demonstrate what we can offer, Shade Zones’ offices/premises also include a showroom with a range of canopies and awnings on display to demonstrate.

Elevator – Stormwater attenuation that bridges the gap and raises the standard.

Designing and installing attenuation tanks has proved a problematic for the construction market for a number of years. All types of attenuation system have their merits but they all have their drawbacks too.

Geocellular systems have proved very popular in the last 10 years however they are not generally adopted by utility companies as they cannot be readily inspected or maintained. This leaves a lasting and costly legacy for developers as they have the headache of maintaining these systems long into the future. In addition to this these systems have design limitations in terms of loading and installation depth which can increase construction dig cost and limit design options due to structural cover requirements.

Whilst precast systems overcome the issues of access , maintenance and design strength they are generally more expensive and require long lead in times and heavy lifting equipment to install, both of which cause on site issues, not least with health and safety. To some extent this argument can also be levied at large diameter pipe systems too.

Stormwater Elevator bridges the gap between these systems and overcomes the issues related to access and maintenance, structural integrity, and life expectancy. As an innovative permanent plastic former system it is used to create an in-situ cast concrete attenuation and stormwater storage tank without the need for heavy lifting equipment.

Its patented design offers engineers and contractors an alternative and cost effective way of achieving a strong concrete void up to 2.5m deep and to any plan size.

Stormwater Elevator is manufactured from a lightweight recyclable plastic making it easy to handle and quick to install which avoids the need for on-site heavy lifting equipment and helps to improve site safety, a major consideration on modern construction sites.

The modular system can be adapted to suit site requirements allowing any custom configuration to be easily and quickly formed.

Stormwater Elevator creates a high load bearing capacity structure which is suitable for use in landscaped and vehicular trafficked areas. The open internal structure of the Stormwater Elevator offers completely free and easy access for the inspection and maintenance of the system. The design of the system also removes the potential for silt build up or blockage which could affect the long-term functionality of a stormwater storage system.
