Neolith by TheSize: A modern material for a timeless renovation

Architects Pere Martinez and Alexis Noguerol, from J. Noguerol, Interior Design and Architectural Studio, have specified Neolith by TheSize when refurbishing the existing floor of a residential apartment in a hundred-year-old Modernist building. The brand of all-natural, premium sintered compact surfaces proved to be an ideal solution to match the bespoke requirements of the historical building, located in the heart of Eixample in Barcelona, Spain.

The muted tones of Basalt Beige, from the Fusion collection, and Moka, from the Colorfeel collection, have been used in 80m² of the property’s flooring to create a bright and elegant ambience, harmonious with the timeless aesthetic of the building’s modernist style. The transformed rooms include the living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and hallway.

In this instance, the material was cut to create curved lines and floral patterns in order to recreate the organic shape and classical lines typical of the Modernist style featured throughout the apartment. Each part had to be cut to size to suit the different representations on the floor of each room.

To make this possible, sophisticated cutting and machining techniques were employed to ensure that each piece was meticulously placed. The material is lightweight, aiding in the ease in which it can be applied to flooring projects, and offers a resistance that will remain intact over time whether for conventional or bespoke design.

Rich in contemporaneous craft, the requirements of this laborious project highlight the quality of the flooring materials and showcase its influence in turning every room into a distinctive space while integrating seamlessly with the original modernist aesthetic of the building.

Since Neolith can be directly placed on an existing surface, the material is suitable for all types of flooring application. It is scratch and abrasion resistant, non-porous and therefore easy to clean, durable, and features chromatic properties so that its colour does not fade. Available in large sheets as standard (3600x1200mm and 3000x1500mm), the lightweight material can also be cut to meet the bespoke requirements of today’s interior design needs.
