X-Rite Pantone launches Bluetooth®-enabled CAPSURE to speed workflow for paint contractors, architects and interior decorators

X-Rite Pantone to showcase new solution at
FARBE – Ausbau & Fassade 2013 in Cologne

REGENSDORF, Switzerland, 26 February, 2013 – X-Rite, Incorporated and its wholly owned subsidiary Pantone LLC is unveiling a more powerful version of its popular CAPSURE device that enables paint contractors, architects and interior decorators to fully utilize their mobile devices to save time and improve customer satisfaction in the selection of architectural coatings.

The new CAPSURE with Bluetooth® technology allows professionals to transfer colour measurement data taken at worksites to their tablets, smart phone and desktop computers wirelessly, said X-Rite Market and Product Marketing Manager Matthew Adby.

“X-Rite is responding to the demand by our customers to give them the best tools possible for seamless workflow and reduced errors in ordering paints,” Adby said. “The new device will extend the performance and functionality of CAPSURE using Apple iOS and Android apps, increasing its value for colour harmonization, visualization and communication.”

CAPSURE has proven to be an indispensable tool for professionals to accurately image and measure the colours of walls, carpets or inspiration objects and match those colours with an electronic fan deck of tens of thousands of paint chips. X-Rite Pantone representatives will be demonstrating the Bluetooth®-enabled CAPSURE technology at FARBE – Ausbau & Fassade 2013 to be held 6-9 March in Munich.

Adby said a paint contractor or architect theoretically could use a Bluetooth®-enabled CAPSURE to take multiple colour measurements at a worksite, then transfer the measurements wirelessly to a mobile device for planning and refinement.  After the planning is completed, the professional can place paint orders to retailers directly via the mobile devices.  Paint manufacturers that have adopted the Bluetooth®-enabled CAPSURE system can provide apps to make ordering easy by linking the instrument’s measurements with their library of paint chips, and Pantone customers will have access to the myPANTONE Apple and Android applications.

Customers will pay a modest premium for a Bluetooth®-enabled CAPSURE, and the files of existing CAPSUREs are compatible with the new version of the instrument.

With its proprietary technology and user-friendly features, CAPSURE set the standard for pocket-sized devices that can accurately measure colours at FARBE – Ausbau & Fassade 2010. “The technology ensures WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get,” Adby said. “With the CAPSURE, users can have confidence that the device is recording their inspiration item or prescribed colour sample exactly as they see it and matching it to paint they can buy.”

CAPSURE was developed to easily and accurately measure colour of straightforward and hard-to-measure surfaces such as textured walls, facades, carpets, fabrics with small patterns and open-weave textiles that can confound other instruments because of their textural complexity. For instance, CAPSURE can extract up to four dominant colours from an intricate pattern so that the viewer can clearly identify the desired colour.

After measuring a surface, users can record the date and time of the measurement, image, text, and voice dictation. Like a huge fan deck, the CAPSURE suggests a specific paint to match the sample and can also suggest colours that harmonize with the sample.
