Greenwich turns greener with Aliva UK’s insulated render
An ambitious regeneration scheme at Greenwich Peninsula in London is showing off its green credentials with a sophisticated insulated render façade from Aliva UK.
The development by Wates Construction is one of the largest schemes in Europe, bringing thousands of new jobs, state-of-the-art new homes and a vibrant community to the area on the banks of the Thames near the O2 Arena.
Architects Jestico + Whiles asked Aliva, the UK leader in façades and interior finishes for a cost effective yet aesthetically pleasing finish to an eight storey residential block of 240 apartments. Forty per cent of them are affordable housing.
Aliva supplied 5,500sqm of white acrylic TermoK8 insulated render to give the buildings a crisp, pared-back look that brought the project in on budget. The installers were Regency Plastering.
The architects said: “We chose Aliva for Greenwich Peninsula because they provide a successful selection from a high quality, through coloured acrylic render system. The finish needed to provide a calm, understated composition, which has been achieved beautifully with a very neat, crisp finish throughout the elements of render within the development.”
Aliva UK Managing Director James Ormerod said: “The project needed a fresh look, which made our acrylic insulated render system an ideal solution. The project was challenging due to the scaffold access. Despite this there are no visible joints, ensuring a slick, clean finish that delighted the client. As INCA members we will be submitting the project to the upcoming new build awards.”
Insulated render is one of the most effective and efficient ways of improving a building’s thermal performance – reducing heating costs by up to a staggering 40%.
