Upstairs Downstairs!

Downstairs bathrooms have long been seen as impractical and a turn-off for house buyers but converting a downstairs area into an additional shower enclosure or wet room significantly increases both property value and the lifetime of carpets and upstairs bathrooms. Having a downstairs showering option is perfect for families (think muddy children and pets!) and according to movewithus* an additional bathroom can add up to 6% to the value of a property.

Creating a downstairs shower area in a completely tiled room that can be washed in one go (from top to bottom) offers a win-win solution for families. Clearly, installing a downstairs shower enclosure is both an investment and a very practical option.

To facilitate a downstairs shower room an area of at least 1.5m squared is required. This additional shower enclosure could be created from a host of redundant spaces; a toilet, cupboard, pantry or even an under-stair recess. For additional space saving and optimization a sliding or bifold door instead of standard hinged opening door makes sense. Merlyn have options from as small as 700 mm.
