As a result a new five year approval has been confirmed for the F Range, W20 and W40 steel profiles by the independent and highly respected Exova Warringtonfire centre, and passed several vigorous and exacting fire integrity test to maintain the coveted BS fire ratings.

The review of the assessment report referenced WFRC No. C118420 concluded that the data used in the original appraisal ‘has been re-examined and found to be satisfactory.’  Additionally, the re-appraisal of the original testing – Fire Test Study Group Resolution 64A: 1993 – ensures that the testing methodology meets the revised requirements of Resolution 82: 2001.

This means that  SWA members can to assure specifiers that the F Range, W20 and W40 can be expected to provide either 30 or 60 minutes fire integrity, in line with the separate specifications,  as tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22:1987.

Importantly, this allows specifiers and contractors to continue employing steel framed windows in potentially challenging situations such as to bring light into stairwells and escape routes around a variety of buildings including hospitals, secure institutions, education establishments and commercial premises.

Originally, the MEATmarket platform had no windows, just PVC strip curtains and netting, which was unattractive and did little to filter out the noise from the busy market below. Working in conjunction with refurbishment specialist PJ Harte, Selectaglaze was briefed to design, manufacture and install a glazed screen incorporating fixed and horizontally sliding units to seal off the burger kitchen from the Market and improve both the acoustics and the environment.

The screen is nearly 3m high and was designed to fit around the deep ceiling beams and existing pipework. A total of 34 frames with 68 individual panes some shaped and all incorporating safety glass were installed. The work needed to be undertaken after the burger kitchen had closed so that the day-to-day running of the business was not interrupted; the installation was completed over 6 nights.

The owners subsequently arranged for the glass to be filmed with eye catching graphics to create a real ‘Retro’ feel.

Following a successful roofing application, Belzona was approached again by a top FTSE 100 company to repair and protect a leaking roof in central London.

Despite the roof, covered in a single-ply membrane, appearing to be in good condition it was found to be leaking in several places. The client, a high profile finance company, required a quick, efficient and long-lasting solution to this problem as the leak was above a plant room containing sensitive electrical equipment, making it a business critical situation. 

As the area was highly populated, the client also sought a low-odour solution in order to ensure minimum disruption during application. They decided to use Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane) as its low odour and cold curing formulation makes it ideal for use in public and commercial locations.

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet RPA-1. The upper level roof was cleaned and prepared before application of a fully reinforced Belzona 3111 system.

The client expressed themselves thoroughly satisfied with the application. The Project Co-ordinator said, “The contractors who carried out the works did a great job in a professional manner and we experienced no interruptions to business or complaints throughout the entire project.” He further added, “I will definitely be recommending Belzona in any future projects where their system can be utilised.”
